Sonja Zweidick - Barista Connect

Sonja is a three time national barista champion and is currently living in Åarhus, Denmark.

She is the founder of Barista Connect, an international network for female coffee professionals. Barista Connect aims to improve gender equality by creating a space where women from all parts of the industry connect, share knowledge, and inspire each other.  

Anne is a co-founder of Koppi Coffee Roasters in Helsinki and a general badass of the intentional coffee industry.  Former Barista and Brewers champion of Sweden, judge of Coffee Masters, green coffee buyer and most importantly winner of the 2nd ever Barista League - it is a pleasure to have Anne along again to The Barista League.

Kris Schackman - Five Elephant

Kris is co-founder of Berlin based Five Elephant Coffee Roastery & Cake Shop. He works there as Co-Managing Director and Green Buyer, focusing on ethical and responsible business practices and transparent sourcing of high quality coffee.  Prior to moving to Berlin and working in coffee, Kris lived in New York City where he worked in Film and Advertizing.




Teams are given an espresso machine, a set of mystery ingredients and 15 minutes to create the best espresso based cocktail they can. Teams will be given a 1 hour training session during the day to familiarize themselves with the equipment, taste the mystery ingredients and dial in their espresso recipe.
During competition time, they will be presented ingredients and 15 minutes to prepare 1 x finished espresso based cocktail for evaluation by the judges.  Drinks will be judged using the following criteria.

1.       Taste Balance
Each drink will be given a score out of 10 for overall taste balance.  This will incorporate the balance between the ingredients and the quality of the taste.
2.       Creativity
Each drink will be given a score out of 10 for creativity of the ingredients and their preparation in the drink. 
3.       Synergy with Coffee
Each drink will be given a score out of 10 for how well the team has presented the coffee in their drink.  Points will be awarded for highlighting the characters of the coffee, and deducted for covering up the qualities of the coffee.



Teams will be presented with 5 glasses of water solutions – Sweet, Sour, Salty, Bitter and Umami.  In 5 minutes they have to match those

water solutions with their correlating description.  One point will be awarded for each correct answer.
